Unlike other muscles in our body which attach themselves to the bone, muscles of the face are attached to the skin on top so each time you make a facial expression they pull the skin along to contract, so the lines are called expression lines. Does that mean you don't express at all or one needs to remove all trace of expression – NO.

There are some negative expressions like say, frown lines or those expressions that pull the corner of your mouth down to give you a sad look so that can be eased off with a little bit of Botox injected with tiny needles to make you look pleasing and relaxed.

 Mechanism of action
BOTOX®- purified protein produced by the botulinum bacterium, is injected directly into the muscles. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles in the next 2 to 7 days which form those lines. The results last 3 to 4 months.

  The look and facial expressions

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes lines is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases, 8 days after.

 If you choose not to continue treatments
If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe lines will gradually look like they did before treatment. BOTOX® is a brand of Allergan.

 Side effects
The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop, localized pain, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of side effects.
